Computational Fluid Dynamics Scientist

Computational Fluid Dynamics Scientist in Fort Lauderdale, FL Area. Develop and implement CFD models for ship hulls, accurately representing geometric details. Simulate fluid flow around ship hulls, particularly focusing on the interaction with air lubrication systems. Analyze flow characteristics such as volume fraction, pressure distribution, and turbulence. Collaborate in the design of air lubrication systems for new and existing ships. Optimize the performance of air lubrication systems through iterative CFD analysis and design modifications. Determine ideal nozzle locations and airflow rates for hulls. Validate CFD model predictions with real-world ship performance and experimental data. Analyze data to identify trends, performance, and areas for improvement. Work closely with naval architects, marine engineers, and other stakeholders. Prepare detailed reports and presentations on CFD study findings and recommendations. Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or related field. Position also requires completion of a university-level course/ research project/ internship/ thesis, or 6 months of experience in each of the following: Understanding of Ship hydrodynamics, structures and naval architecture principles; Fluid dynamics, including concepts such as viscosity, turbulence, and/or boundary layer theory; Numerical techniques used to solve partial differential equations governing fluid flow such as: finite difference, finite volume, finite element, and/or spectral methods; CAD software tools (Rhino, SolidWorks, or similar programs) to create detailed and accurate 3D models of engineering components and systems; CFD software packages (Siemens StarCCM+ and/or other proprietary and open-source tools); Programming languages (Python, and/or MATLAB) for scripting, big data analysis, and developing custom algorithms for CFD simulations; Hydrodynamics and multiphase flows; Setting up simulation with valid physics models; Grid generation and meshing techniques for preparing high-quality computational grids which accurately represent complex geometries; and

Validation techniques to ensure accuracy and reliability of simulation results by comparing them to experimental data or analytical solutions.
